Preventive Preorthodontic Treatment
Crooked teeth and small mouths are a result of poor function and unfavorable habits. These issues have a very negative affect about the aesthetic look of the face but also can be indicative of an airway or health problems.
Identify signs early and conservatively intervene with habit correction, nasal breathing, and training devices to redirect your child’s growth pattern in order to optimize form and function!
WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
Baby teeth without spacing. While in an adult smile it’s great to see straight teeth without gaps, in a child it’s an early sign of a mouth that’s too small and that lacks room for permanent teeth.
Open mouth posture. If you notice your child breathing through their mouth while awake or sleeping or with an open mouth posture in general, that’s a clear sign that there is something else going on. If the mouth is open, the tongue cannot rest on the roof of mouth promoting necessary and optimal growth.
An abnormal bite or jaw relationship. Does your child have an anterior open bite where their front teeth don’t touch? Or an underbite or cross bite which is when their lower teeth are outside of their upper teeth. What about a deep overbite in which you can’t see the bottom teeth behind the uppers? These are all variations of malocclusion and should be addressed as early as possible!
HOW WE CAN HELP!
As always, we will begin with a consultative approach when caring for your child. We will develop and implement an individualized approach depending on their specific needs. The great thing about pre-orthodontic treatment is that it’s non-invasive, conservative and promotes natural optimal growth.
While some offices commit to one proprietary system, we have chosen to work with many different brands of products so that we can individualize each patient’s treatment needs.
